Q&A

Q. What is it about accounting and consulting that first drew your interest?
I was exposed to accounting at a young age because my dad was a tax professional CPA. I saw it as a flexible skill set that could be used for many career paths. I always wanted to be involved in business somehow and this profession was my way into the business world.
Q. Make a prediction; describe your vision of the future of the general business environment for your area of expertise or the industries you serve.
In manufacturing, there will continue to be an increased use of robotics and technology to lower the cost of production and distribution, coupled with more useful data and systems (like blockchain) that will continue to improve predictability and impact future profits.
Q. Without naming names, tell us about your favorite client and why you enjoyed working with them.
A manufacturing and distribution client that is international in scope, currently in eight different countries, resulting in a very diverse professional work experience. All eight locations have different tax regulations and rules, and we help them optimize their operations, monitoring controls and tax cost savings.
Q. Please tell us one fun fact about yourself.
I am familiar with feedback and report to six outstanding women at home, my wife and five daughters. My son and I are completely outnumbered.
Q. Describe your work style.
My guiding principle is empowerment. I empower our employees to lead and own the work they do. I believe in getting them exposed early to difficult situations. I want them to learn quickly and give them hands-on experience while knowing I’m always there to help.
Q. If you could pass on a nugget of wisdom to aspiring accountants or consultants, what would that be?
Develop your data analysis skills, improve your use of technology and work on your persuasion skills. Be able to speak in a small group setting and explain your point of view in a way that’s calm and easy for others to understand.
