Bio

Matt Gard is a partner at Armanino, serving clients in the firm’s Audit practice. He joined the firm in September 2006, and he works extensively with clients in the nonprofit, financial services, and manufacturing and distribution industries. Matt graduated from St. Mary’s College with a Bachelor of Science in accounting. He is a licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a member of both the American Institute of CPAs and the California Society of CPAs. He is also a member of the firm’s Technical Committee and Management Advisory Board.

Q&A

When I first joined the firm, I could tell it had the potential for long-term growth. Since I’ve been here, the firm has expanded exponentially, while we’ve retained our culture and the values that make Armanino a great place to work.

Automation and AI will be everywhere. For clients working with us, that means more efficient audits – and it also means having a partner in Armanino who can give you more analysis and tell you what your peers are doing, where you’re trending and how we can use that data to optimize your business for growth.

The best clients are ones where I can make a real connection with people. I have one client where I connect very well with the CFO and controller. We share similar interests, are in a similar place in our lives and share a work style. These connections allow me to see the challenges they face from their point of view, which enables me to better solve for success.

I would say I’m flexible. I adjust to peoples’ different work styles and various personalities. I’m not a micromanager and I know my team has the talent to run with the ball.

The birth of my children and making partner.

My parents have been a tremendous influence in shaping me. Professionally, my dad has been very helpful in advising me, being in the profession himself. I learned to have a good work ethic by watching how much he put into each engagement. My mom has always supported everything I’ve pursued, both personally and professionally.
