Q&A

Q. What is it about accounting and consulting that first drew your interest?
When I was young, my grandparents owned an insurance agency and gave me old business cards, check stock, an adding machine and other office supplies. I would pretend I had my own business and play for hours. Then in high school, I had an amazing accounting teacher who led me to choose accounting as my college major.
Q. Make a prediction; describe your vision of the future of the general business environment for your area of expertise or the industries you serve.
The vision of the future for nonprofits is being the able to analyze, examine and report more easily and accurately with the enhanced technology that is becoming available. This will help us determine if a nonprofit is successful at its mission and creating a significant impact in the community. If it’s not, we can help make it happen.
Q. Please tell us one fun fact about yourself.
My house is joyful chaos with a husband, two daughters and three dogs, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Q. Describe your work style.
I pride myself on being optimistic, expressive and accommodating. I also strive to be very supportive and patient with my employees. I know that learning by doing is important and I like to give them the freedom to do things on their own.
Q. What’s your proudest moment?
I am so proud as a mother of two incredibly strong, determined little girls who amaze me every single day.
Q. If you could pass on a nugget of wisdom to aspiring accountants or consultants, what would that be?
I tend to want to pass advice to women in accounting. You can have a successful career and be an engaged mom. It’s not easy, and you can’t do it alone, so accept help from others. Recognize that you don’t have to do it all. When you let go of that feeling, you’ll be amazed at how it enhances your life.
