Meet Josh*

Josh graduated from St. Mary's College in May of 1995 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. He joined Armanino in September of 1995 and became Partner in 2006. Josh is a licensed CPA and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, California Society of Certified Public Accountants, California Mortgage Association and the National Business Officer's Association (for private schools).

Josh is the partner lead of the firm's private school and mortgage pool practices. He has been providing services to the non-profit industry, and specifically, the private school industry his entire career. Josh is leading the firm's geographic expansion of its private school practice into Southern California and other parts of the U.S. due in large part to the firm's many value-added initiatives, including industry leading KPI and peer-to-peer benchmarking as well the development of the industry's first license-based dashboard for private schools

Josh also leads the firm's thriving mortgage pool practice which also includes clients from all around the country. Mortgage pool managers often seek out Josh's advice on topics that include: offering document structuring, outsourced back-office accounting, software expertise and support, best practices and internal controls, as well as annual compliance needs such as audits and tax return / K-1 preparation.

When Josh isn't working, you can find him on the baseball field coaching one of his two sons' baseball teams.

In 2006, Josh was selected as one of the Top 40 East Bay Business Leaders under 40 by the East Bay Business Times.

Q&A

Q. What are you most proud of at Armanino?
I am most proud of the leadership and business development aspects I've contributed to both the firm's industry-leading Private School and Mortgage Pool practices.  I am also very proud to be part of the overall successes that have helped Armanino become a TOP 30 firm in the United States.
Q. Describe your most memorable Armanino moment.
My most memorable moment at Armanino was and is more akin to a journey with some distinct highlights rather than a moment. Certainly every promotion from staff through senior manager was a highlight along the way but none was more memorable than my being promoted to partner.
Q. Make a prediction, describe your vision of the business future.
My vision of the business future is one that includes a once-little San Leandro firm becoming one of the largest accounting firms, not only in California, but the entire western region of the United States. I see Armanino becoming a Top 25 firm in the nation during my professional career.
Q. If you could pass on a nugget of wisdom to aspiring accountants or consultants, what would that be?
I have two, Tom Gard and Andy Armanino. I worked with and learned a lot from Tom at the firm he and I worked with before it merged with Armanino. After we joined Armanino, I had the opportunity to work with both Andy and Tom. Given that Andy is the Managing Partner and a proven marketer of the firm's service offerings, and Tom was our long-time partner in charge of Audit and likely the most well-rounded auditor I have ever worked with, it is difficult to imagine two better mentors. The opportunity to have worked with two great partners has provided me with firsthand experiences that are hard to come by. These relationships have been invaluable to my career.
Q. Who is (or was) the most influential person in your life
My grandmother. She took me in as a child and gave me something for which I’ll always be indebted to her—opportunity. She always led me to believe that I could achieve great things, and she sacrificed to make sure that I had every opportunity to do so.
