Q&A

Q. What is it about accounting and consulting that first drew your interest?
I come from a family with a background in accounting. My father is a CPA, my sister is an accountant, my uncle worked for the IRS and my grandmother was the treasurer of her church. My father having his own practice inspired me to explore accounting in school and it was a natural fit for me.
Q. What was it that drew you to Armanino?
The cultural environment at Armanino encourages outside the box thinking from its staff and offers a broad range of expertise and offerings to clients. That to me is a perfect fit.
Q. What is the toughest decision you have ever made?
Turning down the opportunity to work for my father’s firm in Central Valley in order to chart my own professional course in the Bay Area.
Q. What law or regulation in the accounting industry would you like to see changed?
I’d like to see the R&D Tax Credit be made permanent. The uncertainty around its extension hinders our ability to help clients plan appropriately.
Q. Without naming names, tell us about your favorite client and why you enjoyed working with them.
I like clients who are open to change and value our advisory role. My favorite clients are ones who I can build a relationship with and spend time getting to know. The better I understand a client, the better I can understand their needs.
Q. What do you find most satisfying in your role?
Finding creative ideas and creative solutions for clients. When I come up with a tax solution opportunity for a client, I’ll think about it for days in order to think through all of the issues and figure out how best to apply it to my client’s advantage. When it’s successful, it makes it all worthwhile.
