Q&A

Q. What is it about accounting and consulting that first drew your interest?
I really liked the idea of building client relationships. One of the great things about working in tax is that I get to meet with and see the same people year after year and get to know them on a personal level. Taxes are ever-changing and the complexities can be confusing, so getting to alleviate that burden for a client was something I found compelling.
Q. What is one fun fact about yourself?
I love to travel! I’ve been to 47 states and 23 countries. Europe and Hawaii are tied for my favorite destinations.
Q. Describe your work style.
I would say I’m pretty even-keeled, which lends itself well to the deadlines and pressure that are often part of working in tax. My number one goal is to produce high quality work for my clients, and I always ensure my clients are taken care of, even when juggling the most aggressive deadlines.
Q. Who is (or was) the most influential person in your life
My husband has influenced me so much over our 30 years together. He has such a calm demeanor and positive attitude. When facing conflicts, he reminds me to put myself in other people’s shoes. Additionally, my parents played a huge part in shaping who I am today. Growing up on a farm, I learned the importance of hard work, dedication and teamwork.
Q. If you could pass on a nugget of wisdom to aspiring accountants or consultants, what would that be?
Learn as much as you can, whether it’s technical skills, soft skills or any sort of cross-training. Enhancing your knowledge will help you take a more holistic approach to your work and strengthen your background for any career paths that you might explore in the future. Learning should never stop.
Q. What do you love most about your work?
Making a positive impact. I love minimizing taxes to allow for wealth accumulation while easing a client’s tax concerns.
