Q&A

Q. What is it about the accounting or consulting profession that first drew your interest?
I started my career in audit, so I had a lot of experience in seeing issues that could have been avoided. But, I wanted to work more closely with clients on their day-to-day operations and make an impact on how they ran their business. With my background as an auditor and my passion for creating change, consulting was the perfect career for me.
Q. What was it that drew you to Armanino?
Armanino is not your typical accounting firm, and CEO Matt Armanino drew me in with his enthusiasm and forward thinking. The firm shares my values: being helpful and responsive to clients, a positive culture, being open to new ways of solving challenges and looking to what can be done better tomorrow.
Q. What is the toughest decision you have ever made?
Leaving my home in England and moving to the United States. I followed my heart, having met my future husband, an American, in the UK. A lot of people told me I was crazy to pack up and move here to be with my future husband. I had to start over completely: making new friends, being without my family, building a professional network from scratch. To make a major life-changing decision and successfully restart my career in a new country makes me very proud.
Q. What keeps you up at night?
Before coming to Armanino, I owned my own consulting business. Starting a business is risky and takes a lot of determination. What kept me up at night was making sure my people were taken care of, my clients were taken care of, and that we had an eye toward growth to ensure everyone had an opportunity to succeed.
Q. Describe your work style.
No-nonsense, hardworking and responsive. But, I’m empathic and can deliver tough messages in a respectful way to drive the best results for clients. I always try to do the right thing.
Q. Who is (or was) the most influential person in your life?
My mother. She is a very traditional northern English woman who is as tough as they come. She’s always worked very hard and she’s direct – traits I’ve inherited and that have helped me be successful.
